Choir Director, Part-Time

Do you have a passion for choir directing? Do you want to lift hearts, open minds, and help heal the world? If you love leading a choir, and enjoy performing a wide array of musical genres, this is the job for you. At the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, as Choir Director you will select music that excites you, perhaps even your own work.

The First Unitarian Church of Oakland, in the heart of downtown Oakland, is looking for a part-time, skilled Choir Director to lead its choir. The Church is home to brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers. We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history and spirituality. We build a community that changes lives. The Choir, by sharing their joy and love of music is a tremendous contributor to the spiritual life of this community.

If you are…

…an experienced and impassioned choral director

…able to select and confidently direct music from a variety of music genres (i.e. classical, contemporary popular, world music, jazz, gospel, and more)

…at ease working collaboratively as part of a team of church musicians in conjunction with clergy, lay church members and staff

…able to play the piano at a level that supports choir rehearsal (if needed) as well as congregational singing

…respectful and enthusiastic about working with a range of people who comprise the First Unitarian Church of Oakland

…committed to contributing to the culture of First Unitarian’s vision as a multiracial, multicultural, multigenerational, antiracist congregation by offering music in a culturally sensitive manner, honoring the authentic expression of its origins
