Post-Election Response Circle
Thursday, November 5, 7:30 to 8:30 PM

“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country, and this world.” – Roald Dahl

The election has been on our minds for months. Come to a circle that will gently (and in a non-partisan way) consider the results together. Joy, fear, hope, sadness, you are welcome in all of these states. Bring a glass of water and a lotion or whatever moisturizer you use for your skin.

To join in, send an email to yesplease@uuoakland.org with ELECTION in the subject line.

A Night of Fun: Reverse Charades!
Saturday, November 7, 7:00 to 8:00 PM

Come and let’s play a game together! You only need a Zoom link and perhaps a clue to act out. We’ll begin the time with Pastor Theresa explaining the rules, and then we’ll play! To join in, send an email to yesplease@uuoakland.org with CHARADES in the subject line.

Practice Against Microaggressions
Thursday, November 12, 7:30 to 8:30 PM

Pastor Theresa offers another practice session with breakout rooms: one for BIPOC on healing from microaggressions and another one for dominant culture folks on preventing and cleaning up microaggressions if they happen. To join in, send an email to yesplease@uuoakland.org with MICROAGGRESSIONS in the subject line.

Congregational Book Group Meeting
Thursday, December 3, 7:30 to 9:30 PM

We’ll be discussing Elderhood: Redefining Aging, Transforming Medicine, Reimagining Life by Louise Aronson, Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and NY Times Bestseller. As revelatory as Atul Gawande’s Being MortalElderhood is an essential, empathetic look at a vital but often disparaged stage of life. To receive Zoom invitation, email bookgroup@uuoakland.org. The book group has a core of regulars, and drop-ins are always welcome.

On January 7, come discuss A Sand County Almanac, And Sketches Here and There by Aldo Leopold. Few books have had a greater impact than this one, which many credit with launching a revolution in land management. Beloved for its description and evocation of the natural world, it has sold well over 2 million copies and remains a foundational text in environmental science and a national treasure.

12 Days of Christmas: Christmas Chapel

From December 11 through December 22, we will have short and sweet Christmas Chapels. A Christmas Chapel is an online gathering of 30 minutes or less, hosted by one of the ministries of the congregation. If you or your group is interested in hosting a Christmas Chapel, please send a message to yesplease@uuoakland.org with CHRISTMAS CHAPEL in the subject line. Then please save the date for a Christmas Chapel workshop on November 19, 7:00 to 7:30 PM.
