Week of 2-06-20 New Announcements and Events

Saturday , Feb. 15th , Religious Traditions Discussion Group , 10:30 AM – 12 PM , 3rd Floor Library. The third source of UUism acknowledges the wisdom of many religious traditions around the world. All are welcome to join in an investigation of these traditions through guided discussions. This month we will continue our chapter by chapter walkthrough of Huston Smith’s “The World’s Religions” with a continued discussion of Buddhism. For questions, please contact religioustraditions@uuoakland.org

Thu, February 20, Handbell Choir Rehearsal, 7:30 PM – 9 PM, Program Room (2nd Floor). Following a 10-year hiatus, we’re relaunching the Handbell Choir! Handbells and handchimes are beautiful musical instruments that are easy and fun to play. Come to our first rehearsal to learn more. All you need is a good sense of rhythm and a strong commitment to practice with us. Music-reading ability is not required—we’ll teach you! Contact Vincent Raines (jvraines@gmail.com).

Thurs., Feb. 20, 7:30-9:30 PM, Congregational Book Group Meeting, Meeting in Rockridge. We’ll discuss “Islam and the Future of Tolerance” by Sam Harris and Maajid Nawaz, a short (only 144 pages) book consisting of a wide-ranging dialogue between a famous atheist and a former Islamic radical who actually find some common ground. For a free copy + information about location and accessibility, contact Emily.Stoper@gmail.com. Audiobook available on Amazon.

Updated Announcement: Annual Meeting Sunday March 15, 12:00 – 2:00.
Mark your calendars!  At this annual business meeting of the congregation, we hear reports from various church entities, review our current financials, vote on any bylaw changes necessary, elect new board members and thank outgoing board members. Lunch and childcare will be provided.
Are you a voting member?  Per our bylaws, any person who has signed the membership book and made an annual pledge of record (this is different from contributing to the plate during service) or requested and received a pledge waiver from the Minister is a voting member.  To confirm your status or request a waiver, please contact Rinda Bartley at rinda.bartley@gmail.com before February 20.
