SOCK DRIVE: A Blessing of Socks

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As a passionate and concerned congregation, may we be a warm light to an element of physical suffering. This Sunday, December 2 thru Sunday Dec 23, First Unitarian Church of Oakland will collect warm, adult sized socks. Our socks will be delivered to 2 encampments in our neighborhood: one next to the VA Hospital (on Grand Ave) and a park this congregation adopted many years ago, Jefferson Park (on Jefferson St.).
On December 23, we will bless our socks during worship and deliver them to the encampments. Please bring your socks wrapped in holiday paper.
May our collective light be a healing balm to suffering,
Pastor Jacqueline
