Sacred Fruits: A Midsummer Celebration

Midsummer is the season of first fruits. The First Fruits of the year were once considered sacred, but our modern relationship to food often is anything but sacred. In this service we explore first fruits and food justice. We call on the wisdom of wise food thinkers and food justice activists, including Michael Pollan, Alison Hope Alkon, Julian Agyeman, and Jessica Prentice, to inform a ritual worship experience that will help to reconnect us with the sacredness of our food and inspire us to act for justice. Bring a piece of fruit (or appropriate substitute) to eat during the service. Worship Leaders are Zia Swim, Leanna Sac, Piper Rowanoak Swim; Kathryn Winship and Ash Kelly assisting; Anita Thomson on slides.
The live worship will be streamed via Zoom at 10:30 AM and will be followed immediately by time for fellowship. Please email yesplease@uuoakland.org to request Zoom details.
