Sun., April 28, Disability Identity Discussion Group, 9:15-10:15 AM, 3rd Floor Library.
If 15% of the people in the world have some kind of disability, that’s because disability is a very broad category that includes conditions and circumstances that are obvious to others as well as many that are not. This group is for those who identify as disabled and for those who aren’t sure.
Questions of disability identity and culture will be explored, especially in the context of our Church’s commitment to build an intentionally multigenerational, multiracial, multicultural, anti-oppressive religious community.
Debby Kaplan is the convener of this affinity group; she has worked on disability advocacy, policy and accessibility for most of her life. She wrote an article, The Definition of Disability, that is a good starting place for thinking about disability identity.
This group will meet on the 4th Sunday of each month from 9:15 – 10:15 am in the 2nd floor library starting on Sunday, April 28. Questions? Please contact Debby.
