Ministering with Young Adults
Thursday, May 13, 7:30 to 8:30 PM

In our efforts to be an intentionally multigenerational community, we must know how to welcome and work with people of all ages. In this workshop, we will discuss some generational differences, how to avoid microaggressions based on age, and how to create a welcome that sticks. Interim Director of Religious Education Alex has over a decade’s worth of experience ministering with young adults. He will share some insights into what young people are (and are not) looking for in a church community. For an auto-reply with meeting details, email yesplease@uuoakland.org with the subject line YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY.

Alex’s Pep Talk: On the 15th of May, my family celebrates a story of faith, love, justice, and caring. On Horton Hears a Who Day, we invite you to speak up for justice and do something nice for someone else. Because, as Horton reminds us, “A person’s a person, no matter how small!”

Virtual Connections Fair: Stories of Us, Stories of Service
Sunday, May 23, immediately following worship

In the spirit of this month’s worship and learning theme, the Virtual Connections Fair is an opportunity not to be missed: to mix and mingle with other congregants and to connect with more than a dozen members and leaders of First Unitarian Oakland programs and ministries as they tell STORIES about their passion for and experiences in serving our mission. Email connect@uuoakland.org for more information or if you have stories you would like to tell. This will take place in lieu of coffee hour. Check out this reminder video from Pastor Theresa.

Re-Opening Conversations for Parents, Guardians and Families
Wednesday, May 26, 8:00 to 9:00 PM

Families are invited to meet together and with Interim Director Of Religious Education Alex Haider-Winnett to discuss our hopes, concerns, and options for re-opening Religious Education programs. This conversation will help us weigh risks, consider opportunities, and address our emotional and spiritual needs as a part of the community at First Unitarian Church of Oakland. Please contact Alex for Zoom information.

Future of Religious Education Workshop
Rescheduled!  Sunday, June 13, immediately following worship

The May 9 workshop on the future of Religious Education at UU Oakland will be offered again on June 13, following the service. This fun, hour-long workshop will help us consider what in our community is worth growing and building upon. Whether you are young, old, have kids or not, we all benefit from conversations about spiritual development, faith formation, and theological inquiry. Please join us after the service with art supplies, a personally sacred object and a willingness to imagine together. Contact Alex for more information.
