Sun., April 21, Child Dedication Service, Sign up by March 31. In the UU tradition, we bless our children and commit to their care in the ritual of a child dedication during the worship service. It is most often done with babies if their parents are members of the church, but if families join later, some opt to have their children dedicated as older children as well. If you would like your child dedicated by the congregation on April 21st, contact Rev. Sheri revsheri@uuoakland.org by March 31.
Sun., April 7, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, First Sundays For Racial Justice, Starr King Room. (Revised plan!) We will have lunch together, and will start the meeting by 12:20 or 12:25 by breaking into at least two caucuses by racial identities for up to 90 minutes, so plenty of discussion time is provided. We may come back together for a few minutes near the end. Childcare is Provided during this Meeting. If you have a question in advance of the meeting, please address it to the Journey Towards Wholeness Transformation Team. Want to learn more about Journey Towards Wholeness? Click Here!
Policy-based Governance model approved by Board: A Governance Model that Empowers & Distributes Leadership. After much input and discernment the Board voted unanimously at their February 26 meeting to adopt a policy-based governance model.  There have been several informational meetings, meetings with key members, and a month of tabling.
The key governance groups moving forward include an Operations Team with the minister, congregational admin. and laypersons to oversee day-to-day operations, a Program Council to provide coordination between councils and leadership development, and a Board to oversee strategic planning and support and monitor the preceding entities.
You can access the Policy Governance document at this link.  In addition, there will be a hard copy available at the Annual Meeting this Sunday, March 17. A Board member will briefly go over policy-based governance and this document at the meeting.  In faith, Governance Committee, Board of Trustees.
