Saying Goodbye to Vespers- A Note form Pastor Jacqueline

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.  Members, friends and allies of the First Unitarian Church of Oakland the season has come to say goodbye to Vespers.

In September I hosted Vespers. Three people attended and one of them was the Mother of the guest oboe player.  In October I again hosted Vespers and once again we had a guest musician. The people in attendance were 2 guest musicians and the Mother of one of the musicians. Vespers was announced in Chalice Chatter, many colorful flyers were posted throughout the church and announcements were made from the chancel. Given this effort and the non-attendance, it is time to say goodbye to Vespers.

I give thanks to the young adults who gave life and shape to Vespers and Tuesday Night Community Nite that Vespers was a central part of. Thank you to everyone who attended Vespers and the potlucks, the Black Lives Matter vigils,  book discussions, craft circles, sing alongs, films and all the other offerings that made Tuesday Night Community Nite sacred and meaningful. Thank you to Stefan, Mr. Franklin (aka. Frank), and Zack for their support.

A time to be born, a time to die, and a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Goodbye Vespers and Tuesday Night Community Nite.  May we plant new seeds.

Ever4wrd,

Pastor Jacqueline
