Women’s Retreat 2019
Fri., July 19, 2 PM- Sun, July 21, 2 PM, UU Oakland Women’s Retreat: “Embracing Our Wild and Precious Lives”, Redwood Glen Camp and Conference Center.
Please join us for the 2019 First Unitarian Church of Oakland’s Women’s Retreat! This year’s theme is “Embracing Our Wild and Precious Lives”. In the spirit of Mary Oliver we are encouraged to take time for ourselves, for each other, and for our world. We gather to recharge our bodies, minds, and spirits in the companionship of other Unitarian Universalist women. All who identify as women and girls are welcome! Boys under 6 years old may attend with their parent.
This is a weekend to sing, dance, meditate, write, draw, read, talk, swim in the pool, play ping pong, hike among towering redwoods, walk the labyrinth, lounge on the porch or do just what your spirit needs. This is a weekend free from compulsory workshops and classes, although they will be offered, as well as opportunities for worship, spiritual practices, and other group experiences. This is a weekend you won’t want to miss.
Full registration provides 4 meals, plus a light dinner when you arrive on Friday evening. Each of the hotel-style rooms has a private balcony or patio, separate sink, shower, and toilet area, reading chairs, a table, nightstand, and two full-sized beds. Linen and towels are provided with room registration. One handicapped room is available. An elevator is available to provide access to the second floor meeting room. Dining and conference rooms are fully accessible.
The cost is $210 per adult in a shared room for the full weekend. For just Saturday, cost is $65 (meals, programming, but no lodging). Camping is another option (includes meals, programming, and access to showers). Bring comfortable clothes, good shoes for hiking, toiletries and other personal needs items. Redwood Glen does not permit alcohol, cannabis, or illegal drugs.
Friday evening activities are planned to encourage participants to get to know each other. Saturday presents opportunities to attend a variety of workshops ranging from crafts to performance arts. There are also facilitated discussion workshops and meditative offerings including yoga. On Saturday night be prepared to dance and later sing around the campfire. Of course you are free to do whatever you want! It’s your time!
Join us on Friday at 2 pm or later. The retreat will end Sunday noon after closing worship. You must be checked out of your room by then but can hang out under the redwoods the rest of the day.
