The Power of Love: Reflections on Coming Out Day

If you’re joining us for the first time, we would like to extend a full welcome! Please answer a few questions on our Guest Connection Card. * * *

This service will honor the LGBTQIA community and commemorate the process that some people go through to engage fully as themselves with life. The service will include a sermon from Rev. KC Slack, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Verdugo Hills (they/them pronouns). Zr. Alex Kapitan will reflect on a relationship to coming out informed by lifelong Unitarian Universalism. (Note that Zr. is pronounced zister, like sister with a Z, which is a gender affirming form of address.) We will hear from Dick Bailey and others. Stefan Schneider and Vincent Raines are also part of this team. Join us in reflection and celebration.

This service will be in hybrid format: pre-recorded and played on Zoom–so folks can watch together and communicate in the chat, as well as see each other–and played also in a YouTube premiere. The worship service will begin on Zoom at 10:30 AM for greetings and embracing meditation, after which folks will have three choices at 10:45. You can (1) choose to stay on Zoom where the worship video will be shared, (2) view it at its YouTube premiere, or (3) as allowed by your device, stay on Zoom with audio off and simultaneously watch the YouTube premiere. The chat panels on both Zoom and YouTube will be available for folks to share comments and reactions, and folks on Zoom may also be able to see each other. Let’s try it.

You will need a Zoom link to join and can request it by sending an email to yesplease@uuoakland.org with SUNDAY WORSHIP ZOOM in the subject line. A recording of the worship service will be made and posted on First Unitarian Church of Oakland’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page. If you want to talk about being recorded, please reach out to Pastor Theresa.

Embracing Meditation

A time to share what you’re thinking of with care, embracing meditation will be part of worship. If you are unable to join but would like to include names or words, please feel free to email Pastor Theresa or text them at 510-473-SOTO (510-473-7686) before 7 PM Saturday, with EMBRACING MEDITATION in the subject line.
