Sol Food: Reflections on Hygge for the Winter Solstice

We gather at Yule to invoke the spirit of cosy joy or “hygge.” It may be hot chocolate, a warm fire, familiar carols, or the embrace of beloved family that brings you the sense of comfort and well-being that the Danish call hygge. In this season of isolation and illness, it may be harder to find a sense of hygge than it was in previous winters. Join us on a journey through loneliness to self-care and love, arriving at the heart of hygge with Yule carols and First Unitarian’s annual tradition of welcoming in the Sun! Bring something that is hygge for you – a cup of tea? a warm blanket? – and a paper Sun, if you have one. Come nourish your Sol! Worship leaders are Zia Swim, Piper Swim, Kathryn Winship, Claudine Tong, Ash Kelly, and Tara Miller.

For information on how to join this upcoming virtual worship service, send an email to yesplease@uuoakland.org with SUNDAY WORSHIP in the subject line.
