Hope, Community & Salvation: Unpacking Our Theological House

Theology is about the structures of meaning that shelter and shape our way of living. As Unitarian Universalists we are the inheritors of a rich dissenting tradition, seekers on the edge of change and transformation, striving for justice and truth in the context of our own time. Many of us come fleeing from conservative and oppressive theologies with rigid frameworks and dogmatic beliefs. What would it mean however to reclaim classical elements of theology and reframe them for progressive people of faith? Using the “Theological House” model developed by Rev. Dr. Rebecca Parker, this sermon will explore how Unitarian Universalists can relate to issues of systemic theology including: eschatology (last things & ultimate hopes), ecclesiology (what forms religious community), and soteriology (salvation).
