Holding the Light

If you’re joining us for the first time, we would like to extend a full welcome! Please answer a few questions on our Guest Connection Card. * * *

What does that mean for deep listening, to one another and to the world? When we talk about listening, we are actually referring to making meaning from sound and related means of communication. Fortunately, making meaning is one of the central tasks of our community. Join us for a live Zoom service in which we will explore the blessings of listening and clarify what the call to listen means for us in these times.

You will need a Zoom link to join and can request it by sending an email to yesplease@uuoakland.org with SUNDAY WORSHIP ZOOM in the subject line. A recording of the worship service will be made and posted on First Unitarian Church of Oakland’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page. If you want to talk about being recorded, please reach out to Pastor Theresa.

Embracing Meditation

A time to share what you’re thinking of with care, embracing meditation will be part of worship. If you are unable to join but would like to include names or words, please feel free to email Pastor Theresa or text them at 510-473-SOTO (510-473-7686) before 7 PM Saturday, with EMBRACING MEDITATION in the subject line. Please note that Rev. Theresa is unable to check email on Sundays.

Events for Children and Youth

  • No Children’s Chapel on October 4
Children’s Chapel will be held the 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month through December. If you need information on how to access, please contact Nicole or Alex.
  • Club UU is Now Part of Our Worship Community
We are currently assessing the future of Club UU–Our Middle School and Tweenage Group. While we discern its future, we encourage all families to worship together during our Sunday service. From the comfort of your own home, worship however you best see fit. Get up and dance and sing during hymns, write or draw during the sermon, create your own prayer rituals. However you wish to worship, do so as a family and with our larger community. Children’s Chapel and Youth Group Hangouts are still being offered before and after service respectively. If you have any question, feedback, or concern about religious education at UU Oakland, please contact our Interim Director of Religious Education Alex.
  • Youth Group Kick Off!
12:00-1:00 PM. All high school aged youth are welcome to join us with a song that supports you during these hard times. Prepare a link to share with the group. This week, Interim DRE Alex will be joining Amy to say hi to the group and help decide what the meetings and activities will be like this year. Contact AmyAlex or Nicole for Zoom information.
