The Cost of Complicity: The Power of Love to Heal What Is Broken

In August and September, First Unitarian Oakland has turned our attention to some of the things that make congregational life essential and life-giving, worship, pastoral care, and opportunities for connection, like covenant groups. As we look at the world beyond the congregation, however, we observe much cultural fracture and pain. Where does it come from? How shall we, as people of faith and ethics, respond? Join us to talk about the influence of Christian nationalism on the United States and on how we practice liberal religion together. We will also be celebrating a child dedication and use understandings of a healing world as one gift to the future generations this community represents. Join Rev. Theresa Ninán Soto, music leader Renée Witon, and other worship team members.

Please note: In 1954, Congress approved an amendment by Sen. Lyndon Johnson to prohibit 501(c)(3) organizations, which includes charities and churches, from engaging in any political campaign activity. While this service will touch on topics related to politics, there will be absolutely no campaign activity or suggestion of any candidate as endorsed by the congregation.

After the service, we have informal discussion in our Virtual Coffee Hour — just stay in the same Zoom session after service ends.
