We communicate with each other through a variety of media. Weekly there are announcements printed in the Sunday Order of Service. In addition, pulpit announcements are made for events of particular interest to our community.
We also have a monthly newsletter which is emailed or mailed to members and friends. The Sower is always available at the bookstore and/or the membership welcome table on Sundays and it is posted on this web site. Check here for recent issues of the Sower newsletter.

The Chalice Chatter - Our E-Newsletter
The Chalice Chatter is the church's e-newsletter that's published every other week during the church year (September through May) and every three weeks during the summer months. It's a great way to stay informed on the current events here at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland. If we have your email address, we will automatically subscribe you to the Chalice Chatter. If you prefer not to get it, there will be an opt out option at the end of the newsletter. Or feel free to email our church office at office@uuoakland.org to ask to be removed from our mailing list.

Submitting Articles for Publication
If you have an article about a church activity that you wish to have published in one or more of our media, please first review our Communications Policies to be sure you are following our guidelines.
- To publish an article of no more than 250 words in the Sower Newsletter, please email your text to office@uuoakland.org. The article is always due by 10 AM on the 10th of the month for the forthcoming month's issue (e.g., May 10th is the deadline for the June Sower). Please put the words “Sower” in the subject line.
- To publish a short announcement (3 to 4 sentences) in the Order of Service, please email office@uuoakland.org. The text is due by 10 AM on the Wednesday before the Sunday when you want it published. Order of Service Announcements will be placed in the Chalice Chatter as well.
- To publish an short announcement on the church website, please email webmaster@uuoakland.org.
